About Sreya Mitra

Sreya Mitra is an Associate Professor at the Department of Media Communication, American University of Sharjah, UAE. Her research focuses on popular Hindi cinema, television and new media discourses, stardom and celebrity culture, South Asian diaspora, gender, globalization, and culture industries. She has presented her research at various international conferences and her work been published in the edited collections Reorienting Global Communication (2010), Transnational Stardom (2013), Nation, Nationalism and the Public Sphere (2020), and State, Nation, Religion (2026), and in the peer-reviewed journals, South Asian History and Culture (2012), Celebrity Studies (2018, 2020, 2021, 2025), South Asian Popular Culture (2020), Transformative Works and Cultures (2020), Middle East Journal of Culture and Communication (2021) and Journal of International and Intercultural Communication (2025).
